Recently I was researching plumbing innovations and came across an article that mentioned the IoT. I had never heard of the abbreviation and discovered that it referred to the "Internet of Things."
So what is the IoT? According to Google, "The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects, or "things", that are connected and can exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet. These devices are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies that allow them to "speak" to one another. IoT devices can transmit data, perform data analysis, and control each other remotely."
Sounds a bit like science fiction but it has become reality in 2024 and whether you know it or not, tens of thousands of devices such as digital speed limit signs, air quality sensors, lightening detectors, smart security cameras, etc. are keeping tabs on thousands of data points and interacting with each other.
