JMC Safety

At Jersey Mechanical Contractors, safety is not just a requirement — it is core to our culture and mindset.  By working together, staying vigilant, and taking personal responsibility, we can achieve our goal of an injury-free workplace and ensure the continued success of our employees, our clients, and our company.  This commitment is demonstrated by our current grade of "A" by ISNetworld.

Safety Policy Statement

At Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (JMC), the health and safety of our employees, subcontractors, clients, and the public is our highest priority. As a union plumbing and HVAC contractor, we are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace that meets or exceeds all applicable OSHA, State of New Jersey, and local regulations, as well as all union safety standards and project-specific requirements.

Our goal is zero incidents — every worker and stakeholder goes home safely at the end of each day.

Employee Responsibilities

Every employee, from apprentices to foremen, shares responsibility for maintaining a safe jobsite. All employees are expected to:

  • Follow all JMC safety rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

  • Immediately report any unsafe condition, act, or incident to their supervisor.

  • Participate in required safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training.

  • Use tools and equipment only for their intended purpose and in a safe manner.

Stop work and notify supervision if a task cannot be performed safely.

Training and Communication

  • All new hires and subcontractors must attend a Safety Orientation before beginning work.

  • Employees will receive ongoing training on job-specific hazards such as confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, and lockout/tagout.

  • Weekly toolbox talks will be conducted by foremen or site supervisors.

Safety information will be communicated through postings, meetings, and digital notifications.

Management Committment

Management at JMC recognizes that safety is a fundamental part of quality work and operational excellence. We commit to:

  • Providing a safe and healthful work environment for all employees.

  • Ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials meet required safety standards.

  • Enforcing all applicable OSHA and local safety regulations.

  • Providing regular safety training, supervision, and support.

  • Consulting with union safety representatives to address concerns.

  • Investigating and documenting all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.

Union Collaboration

As a union contractor, JMC maintains open communication with union safety representatives and stewards to promote compliance and worker well-being. Joint safety meetings and cooperative training initiatives will be conducted regularly to ensure all parties uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

Hazard Identification and Control

JMC actively identifies, evaluates, and controls hazards on every project through:

  • Pre-task planning (PTP) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).

  • Daily inspections of work areas, tools, and equipment.

  • Immediate correction of unsafe conditions or behaviors.

  • Compliance with all OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction) and 1910 (General Industry) standards.

  • Implementation of site-specific safety plans when required by clients or project scope.
