JMC's story began with Robert J. Butler's pursuit of future in the construction industry.  As a young man, after being discharged from the Army, Bob followed in his father's and grandfather’s footsteps as a worker in the mechanical contracting trades.  He started his journey as an apprentice with Pipefitters Local Union 274 in Parsippany. As a journeyman, Bob learned the skills to complete jobs quickly and efficiently. Bob's attention to excellence lead to his quick ascent through the ranks as a foreman, a general foreman, and finally field supervisor. Bob had the opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream of starting his own firm when The Fred Wendel Company closed its doors. With the help and guidance of his friend and mentor, Andy Mihal, he began doing business as Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. methodically bidding and obtaining more and more jobs growing the company.

In 1986, Robert J. Butler began doing business as Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. With a phone and a desk he began bidding work as a small start up company in East Rutherford, NJ. Now over 35 years later, Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is one of the most respected mechanical contractors in the state.

While Bob was expanding the business, his son, Robert was developing his mechanical contracting background through education and hands on experiences. Robert worked summers for Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. digging ditches, running bids to bid openings, and learning the business from the ground up. In addition to practical experience, Robert earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina in 1995. Robert began working for Jersey Mechanical full time in 1996 and brought fresh insight and vision to the business. He is a member of Plumbers Local 14 union house and has a NJ Master Plumbers License. Robert is now responsible for the complete operation of the company.

In 1998, the company expanded and transitioned to Farmingdale, NJ. At that time Bob’s daughter, Krista assumed the role of controller and office manager, ensuring that Jersey Mechanical possessed the administrative talent to compete projects efficiently and professionally.
